Could I get some help with my plant. I have a few secondary's that the tips are just turning brown and dying. The rest of the secondary grew fine but all the leaves have a variation of color that I have never seen before. I posted a couple pics in my diary. Hoping someone may know what I can do to save it. I apologize for it being upside down.

Looks like mosaic disease to me, from my understanding you won't be able to cure it easily because it's in the soil, a lot of people try but few are successful, I've never had it before so I'm not the one to ask for opinions on a treatment but, if it were me I'd ride the year out, plant a cover crop of mustard seed and drench the heck out of the garden with companion come spring.

So after further research mosaic uses weeds as a host over winter and in the summer bugs transfer the disease to your plants, there is no cure as of right now, precaution to avoid this disease in the future would be regular insecticide applications once bugs are present in your patch primarily aphids will host the disease for pumpkin growers, however all bugs can carry it over.

Thanks Josiah. I didn't grow here last year but it did grow up in pig weed 7 to 8 feet tall. In the fall I mowed it down and tilled it under. I did use a Bayer weed killer that kills weeds for 3 months on the patch this year. The plants were no where near where I sprayed it but they are now growing in the area. Would that give me this issue?
I am going to keep spraying with two different fungicides I have and ride it out I guess.

I spray round up and a few other weed killers around my plant as the vines grow with no ill effect, the leaves are the tell tail sign of mosaic the tips striving up will happen with mosaic as well, all you can do is ride her out and hope for the best.

Hi Joe, Having the advantage of knowing what your soil test results were I would lean toward Magnesium deficiency. Would also guess that it started showing up after your pumpkin started showing gains over 15 lbs. a day. Once the plant shifts over to a strong fruit sink the majority of nutrients will be sent over to the fruit and the plant will show any imbalances in the soil.

Youre plant grew upside down-that's the problem:). Sorry couldnt help it.It could also be yellow vine disease-would need to see more pictures, could also be herbicide damage.

Joe if it mosaic it will just show up in the new growth and wont spread back into the already grown out leaves. If its yellow vine disease youll see a bronzing of the older leaves running along some of the vines. If its yvd the pumpkin typically stops.

What is the active ingredient/s in your Bayer Weed Killer? I bet that is your issue. Weed Killer is non a selective broadleaf killer. The words kills for 3 months tells me it is not glysophate, and most likely 2-4-D.

With YVD you will see all forward growth stop... vines, fruit, everything and the tips will cluster up and point straight up

One of the favorite plants that the Mosaic virus like to overwinter in is the Poke weed so scouting around and killing those off may help if you have that problem

Wow...a lot of advise to take in.
Steve...you may be correct where the first 5 secondary's on each side look fine and have elephant ear size leafs. After the fruit started is where all issues started happening. The fruit is still doing 21 ppd which is not great but not terrible for a squash. Half of my secondary's are still growing ok. I noticed yesterday that my pumpkin plant has some of the variation color in the newer growth but not as bad. What do you recommend I feed it to help.
Cojoe...I do have older leaves around the stump bronzing up but not really spreading. I will put a pic today of the leaves on my diary. The best thing I have going for me is the fruit is still growing and most secondarys are also.
LVP...I will check later on the ingredients. It actually says 6 month protection on the label. I have used Round Up in the past with no problems and thought this was ok. STUPID!!!
Thank you for taking the time to help with my issue. Good luck to all!!

Even the new Round Up is bad. I think they sell it as Round Up Plus it has another ingredient with the Glysophate that will take a pumpkin down
