Hi. I have some seeds from an 18 foot tall sunflower. The sunflowers are about a foot tall now. How long would it take them to fully reach there height and to get the flower on it. The reason I'm asking is because I am trying to enter the tallest sunflower into the local fair here on September 26 is the date you gotta bring them in. I'm bringing some large head ones in too. But I would really like to get a tall one in. Will the sunflower have time to fully grow to its max height and get the flower?

I planted one out about may 15nth, It reached FULL HEIGHT ABOUT jULY 15nth, so about 60 days for me from the 1 ft. plant out. At that time I could see the head but it wasn't open yet. Topped out at 12'and was in bloom about a week later.

I graciously received a pack of giant sunflower seeds...2 tall, 1 big head, 1 big head (said Tall Too) on the seed pkg. The two tall one's topped out at approx 8/9 ft, and are now growing multiple heads on them!! The big head one is doing fairly well (head might reach 18-20")! The big head (w/tall too on the lable) is now above 16' tall, and will prbly produce a 20-24" head!! Yahoo!! If sunflower heads are not completely covered...cross pollination can & will happen...Damn them busy bees!!! Peace, Wayne

Henry: you should have started them 2 months ago, not alot of time left, i usually enter that contest, except for last year do to lack of water, i won it a few years ago, make sure you give them lots of water, but i think the ship has sailed on any serious height

Henry...pain in the rear end this sunflower game is!!! If you want a 18 ft. tall sunflower, you need to build a 18'tall trellis !! Think a bit, 18 ft tall w/20 lb sunflower head at the top? What's gonna happen in 10 mph winds if not supported properly? Peace, Wayne PS...big moon...yes!! LOL
