I planted a 2075 Connolly and it took off until it turned into a Ribbon vine. I pulled it. I planted my back up 1447 Rowe in the same spot and it took off also but then it turned into a Ribbon vine. Can the location in the garden (soil)affect weather your plant will become a ribbon or not?

I often think they are a product of HOT SOIL, Hot being high nutrients.... what do you soil test results say?

There was a earlier post about ribbon vines and it was mentioned that about 8 factors that can bring out that ribbon vine thats there in giant pumpkins genetically.moisture high or low can/possibly nutrient levels. When it happens on a bigger plant I tend to think its something in that plot that's bringing it on.

I put field corn around my patch and went heavy on the urea to get it to grow fast. Worked great for the corn but every secondary that I ran along the corn turned to a ribbon and eventually just broke itself off. Pretty sure high nitrogen can cause it to happen.

My spring results showed low nitrates but I was high in Potassium and Magnesium. Both plants were planted basically in the same spot. Note to self plant back=up across the patch.
