Greetings. Getting back into growing after having been away for a few years. Any recommendations on when if ever to terminate the growth of secondary vines? I used to do it after 12-15 feet of length but am curious if I should let these things just grow. My fruit has been set for about 10 days now and longest secondary vines are probably 12-15 feet in length now.

I still stick to the age old saying "your growing fruit, not salad" I terminate after 15ft typically. If the plant is fast growing I'll let it grow out 15-17ft.

Thanks. Do you terminate all your secondary vines all at once or do you let them all reach about 15 feet before terminating?

Fill in your patch. I like to curve vines 7 and greater going forward letting them fill up my space. Mid August I will run out of room. Keep the main going till the end.

Wizzy- I've got plenty of space so I could let them go quite a ways without terminating. Are you saying don't terminate them?

I think it comes a time where growing salad no longer supports the fruit. I was told to term everything in August except the main....Leaves 30 feet away from the fruit will take a bit of time to benefit a fruit. But when the early leaves burn out, I think it may help....thoughts?

Me and Josiah just spoke the other day about how we think you don't need more than 600-800 sqft to grow a world record. I always terminate the vines once they hit around 15ft. Typically no more than one - three a day. I am a huge believer as well as Josiah that all that energy focuses to the pumpkin rather than vine growth.

Just my 2 cents :)
