I have had this happen on 5 or 6 secondaries, where parts splits away and curls up. I have pic in my diary. Should be up soon. Any ideas on the cause of this let me know. It isn't from varmints chewing on it.

It looks like it started at a tendril. Did you re-position the vine and the tendril catch something and start a split? Did you nick it with a hoe? Is all the rain in your area causing vines to blow out? That's about all I can think of.

I was thinking tendril myself. One time rather than cutting one off with scissors that I normally do, I too a short cut and pinched it off then pulled on it. It pealed skin off the vine. Days later the vine had a split in that same spot.

I got a heavy rain last night and noticed a large split in about my third secondary. 2in long. can I cut it at the main and abandon that secondary? fared of disease with the wide open crack exposed

Is it on the top, bottom or side. You can cut it off, then you have an opening closer to the main. I just split the opposite side so water can't sit in there. Throw sulfur on it, and let it heal over. Try and keep it dry. I have a number of splits if they start to rot I'll cut them off.

Spray it with peroxide, wipe dry with paper towel, rub all brown off with fingernail, mix sulfer and H2O make paste, fill crack full, put fan on it close. do again and again. Skip peroxide after a couple three times then keep her full of sulfer. In the south you will need fans or there will be no weighoff.
