what would happen if you had a sterile piece of sheet glass and pushed it through a pumpkin slicing off a section so you could see into the cavity? I think it would start to rot where the skin touches the glass and the glass may be smeared too much to see through.

If I really wanted to see the cavity, I'd drill a hole and use a bore camera, silicone the hole. She wouldn't last long though.
