At what time should you remove leaves and stems from around ur root/stem area? Do most growers uncover the main vine and how far should you expose it? Still learning here in mobymike's neighborhood, any advice would be considered.

No pro, but have read & learned to try & clear the stump/stem area, and then cover to keep it dry. Will be doing so in the am to cover the four plants I have left. Peace, Wayne

Now is the time of year when problems can start with your main,if you have fast draining soil you may be fine leaving it covered. The trash around the stump should always be kept cleaned up.

If we're talking about stumps, anytime is ok.cut them so they won't hold water, thin coating of sulfur and a fan to dry them. Let the sun shine on a them, helps in healing process. Cover to keep them dry at night. I'm using clear plastic over hoop house frames. Some growers will uncover mains after the top root has been firmly established. I clear my stumps about 2ft, usually cause leaves get old or damaged
