I posted a picture on my diary and im looking for advise. The hole is about 10 feet out on the main vine and is still solid and not getting soft. I pollinated on Friday at 14 feet out and was hoping this would be the keeper. If I keep it dry and dusted with sulfur will I be ok or should I turn the secondary before it and make that my new main vine. Any advise is appreciated.

Lengthwise splits like that don't cut through the vascular tissue and don't seem to hurt growth. I would keep it. Since it is on top of the vine, the big problem will be keeping water out. You might want to make something to shed rain. It might help to paint it with full strength Daconi to prevent rot.

I'd personally keep it, that is just superficial and will grow into a big functional scar. Like Iowa said, key is to keep dry, but you need plenty of airflow. Two pieces of wood screwed together at 90 degrees like an A-frame cabin work well with the sides open.
I had to cut back to a secondary this year and the process set me back 2 weeks. I'm just now getting the terts to grow in as new secondaries. You probably wouldn't get a pollination with plenty of new plant growth until later July. Good luck

Thanks everyone for the advise. I'm going to build a little cover over it and keep a fan on it just to be safe.
