How long do you let the main vine get before you pollinate?

12-15 feet is the best distance for a pumpkin

Anywhere between 8 1\2' and 18' big ones have been grown.

I think the old world record, 1725 Harp, was grown at 7 or 8 feet, and like SoCal said all the way out to 18-20. Best is to get a good position or one that falls perpendicular to a long outside bend on the vine as a new grower.

I think it's more about how much plant is behind the pumpkin compared to how far out I'll take what I can get and work from there

Sure more leafs more power but after the kin those vines grow pretty slow when your kin is sucking the life out of a plant I've always had better luck setting on a bigger plant than a small one that doesn't have a lot of leafs to grow a world class pumpkin more roots more fruits ever try to grow a monster kin off a small plant ? If that was possible why is the 150 sq ft plant contest pumpkin average weight like 700 pounds ? What's Ron average weight and how big are his plants when he sets fruit? I bet they are not long and skinny plants I feel it's best to set on a good sized plant and not try to grow a plant when you are also trying to grow kin just my opionion

BCG, sorry if I wasn't clear? I will certainly be looking for approx 12-14 ft. pollination. Might take a lil shorter b/cause of heat down here makes pollinations tougher, later on! Peace, Wayne
