I was looking back at my 2005 diary last night & was amazed by how many different fatal mistakes I made on several different plants & had no idea what I did wrong. It was my 4th year growing & I was "gung-ho." I loved my plants to death by overwatering (my drainage was not good), I used a lot of manure (just like the books said to) and split a bunch of fruit. It makes me laugh looking back on the bad/unnatural situations I created in the pursuit of growing a big one. I had fusarium in a couple plants & lost them. Several of my fruit were shaped very strangely. I learned a lot about what NOT to do. I subscribed to the "moron" theory. There are a lot of ways to screw up a plant & I might have set a record in doing that in 2005!

It is easy to try too hard and do more harm than good.

unfortunately if you want to get maximum results and pull in everything possible for that pumpkin ?, you will need to be right on the edge of everything you do.
be it growth products, soil health, plant health, etc, you pretty much run right to the edge of the cliff with everything you do.
this is where experience plays a big roll) --- you wont learn if you dont make a few mistakes along the way. in our hobby excess is acceptable up to a point. as any grower who has taken a blue ribbon and most will tell you this.

Russ make sure you have this all in your diary so others will know what not to do:) Its a lot clearer what went wrong versus what leads to success with these crazy pumpkins.

Is it Russ Pingrey or Russ Pugh Joe? I don't think either of them post much anymore...
Not even sure if they're growing this year?

This is Russ Pugh, and yes, I'm growing this year! I'm growing 8 plants which are comfortably becoming larger my the minute in their spacious 8,000 square foot screen house.
