i see some of you soak your seeds in a 10% peroxide solution; i'm just wondering, is that to make sure there are no problems with the seed? probably a dumb question, but a had to ask;;;

I'm with Matt-Man. Only second year growing and have germinated 200 plus seeds. My understanding is that if any germs, bacteria, disease are transferred on the shell of the seed they will be killed with the 10% solution. Scientific proof? Not sure..only my second year. They will all probably germinate the same way.. it's the down the road disease thing that is trying to be prevented.

Its for disease prevention. 1-2 minute soak is what I did. Diseases can be on your tools, clothing, containers, in potting soil ( I sterilize mine for 10 minutes in the microwave on high) and on the seed coating. I even washed the container I mixed the potting soil in with a bleach solution.
Once you've had your season destroyed by disease you will try everything to not let it happen again.

I did the 10 minutes in the microwave thing Kevin. Man that soil got hot! If there was any disease in my starter mix is dead now.:)
Anyway I can eliminate disease I'm trying.

Is anyone worried about the peroxide or intense heat killing off any good things?

I have soaked in half hydrogen peroxide and half water for 2-3 hours for over a decade with no ill effects.

I did my first seed soak with: 10/1 water/peroxide plus little liquid humic, Seacom, seaweed and I think that was it. I meant to add a bit of Azos fro WOW, but can add that anytime and already in patch prep.

thank you for your reply's. that's what i thought, it was just an extra precaution against any disease; i have grown before, but usually just soaked seeds in straight water. this year i will try the peroxide solution, like a couple of you said, just in case;;; Garry.
