I want to try something fun between another grower to find a bit of camaraderie, fun competition with a beneficial cause. I'd like to find another grower to start a bet for the largest Atlantic Giant grown in the 2017 season between you and I. The bet would include 75.00USD donated to your/my local club(dependent on winner) and 25.00USD given to whomever wins via gift card of your choice or check. The idea being, to communicate throughout the season, form a friendship and help boost club funding. The only rule being that your fruit is weighed through a GPC sanctioned event.

I would provide a random drawing if there is more than 1 person interested and announce it on Bp within the next 7 days.

I'm thinking a competition between myself and whoever else on which ever person has the heaviest pumpkin at the end of 2017. Sorry for the bit of confusion.

Not sure if it would be legal for a non profit

Count me in, but I think there should be based on percentage. To make the playing field fair, it should be based on years growing experience. Those with lesser experience get an extra point or two.

Extra points can be converted into pounds

Call your weight how many pounds you'll beat me by, or visa versa

I am a gambler....my pb so far has been only 1109. But I have only grown a selfed orange line for the past 5 years. This year, i am taking off the handicap...i am growing ugly. My choice for local club is Gale Woods Farm. I will entertain offers.

Hobbit,
There wasn't a lot of thought put in on my end, if anything, terms could be agreed upon before the bet begins. Geography would play as much a role as experience, maybe a handicap would be appropriate? I think any terms could be agreed upon before the bet begins with the competitor.

Bnot, I would be very interested, my pb is only 1369 and I have never tried to grow orange!

You are on Bill, no handicaps, the scale at Gale Woods will decide the winner. $75 to UMGPG and $25 to the winning grower. It is a win-win situation. If we have a bad year...we can win it back the next year out of general prize fund. You just might regret giving up that irrigation pump..

DHertz..I can make another wager with you too if you desire. I won't ask for a handicap. I think I can break 1369 with the ugly seeds. Let me know. I am wondering what club you would choose?

I'm choosing MIchigan Giant Pumpkin Growers, This will be the 7th or 8th year of hopefully going to Dundee. I can compete with 2 growers max.
Would we like to follow GPC rules or allow Dmg?

I will do the competition with two growers also. I will grow for UMGPG...BillF is already taken one spot..so i have one competition spot open. Since you started this thread DHertz..it will be up to you if choose me as a competitor. If you choose two others, that is fine.. I will open it up to everyone else. I think I can make it close in competition with everyone...my 150 patch to compete with the southern growers, my orange (hopefully a beauty) in community garden...and my 2 uglies. Sorry Bill, it probably will be an ugly going to Gale Woods Farm.

I go to a weighoff in Nebraska I believe they are part of the Colorado pumpkin growers club so that is where my money will go...I would say gpc rules...up to you if you want to allow dmg

DHertz, I will put up the money...if...total weights are calculated according to last years records in that particular state. % above last years average? Can this be done? Peace, Wayne

It can certainly be done Wayne, are you saying the difference between said state's record % difference to state average is the handicap? If this were about making an individual profit, I would gladly oblige, I'm just trying to keep it simple by donating 75/25 to club/grower ratio. If you don't want to bet against the opposite grower, don't.
That being said, Jake and Bnot, I would love to do a competition this year.

Could you both email me at hertzfeldsgiantpumpkins@gmail.com? We can hash out details and start communicating to start this off.
