How many of you North East growers are worried about the late full moon this year. I've lost tomatoes on the 10th of June before. Extra sheets and blankets I think are a must. I will probably start stocking up since I'll probably have 25-30 AGs plus my veggies. Hate when the full moon comes so late.

Never heard of this before. What effect does a full moon have on AG's?

FROST..Last frost will usually occur on the last full moon of May or early June if it's not overcast. Clear nights around the full moon will usually produce frost. Might just be here in the Adirondacks. Old Wives Tale?? Like I said I've lost veggies in the first 10 days of June due to frost.

As a former meteorologist, I can tell you that the phase of the moon has zero connection to the temperature.

It's full moon with clear skies that can be the problem but having farmed for 40 some years here in eastern Ontario I have never seen a frost after June 3rd and that was just one time

Last frost here in 1992 was June 21, the first day of summer. I picked frozen dew off the plants, had tomato plants killed by it. A week later we saw where there was significant corn damaged in Iowa and Wisconsin. They said it was caused by all the dust Mt. Pinatubo put into the air when it erupted. Also, being in a low area with poor air circulation contributed. The moon had nothing to do with it.

Big T Hoff. It is true for me here too! A clear windless cloudless night when the moon is full brings a greater chance for frost on both ends of the growing season. I am not sure if the full moon thing is true for the rest of the country though. I have never seen a frost in June and I hope I never do. I typically am only concerned about full moon cycles in May where I am located. Iowegian I remember the year 1992 as well. It was very cool in June that year. If I remember things right, the summer warmed up and was normal after that.

Most old timers around here always said don't plant until after Memorial Day and if the full moon is after that watch for frost. It still comes up all the time..from the next generation who are all mostly Old Timers Now. You can go 20 miles South of me and the growing season starts two weeks earlier. So does the concrete season. I'd have to remove snow to get to our tools so we could start work 20 miles away and then when I could work here I would wait another week or two further north. I hope for no frost because all my veggies will take a big hit.
