Same on the doctored soil, my patch of cover crop is a perfect glowing green rectangle contrasted by brown grass and massive dog turds in the actual yard.
If you feed birds through the winter, check the weeds\grass\plants in those spots next summer, should pack on the biomass.

Bird seed/ dog doo = phosphorus and nitrogen? We get a nicer green grass wherever the wild flowering peas grow. They must add a lot of nitrogen to the soil, but I also wonder if it isn't just nitrogen, maybe they make iron more available too.

Fingers crossed that those times won't come when I neglect my pumpkins just for the sake of optimizing conditions for an early start of a most beautiful and most productive cover crop ;) Well, I like the cover crop, it's like a a green ray of sunshine in winter time, but... actually can't wait for the next AG seeds to see soil.

Lol. OTT = 40' X 60' X 0.1666666666666667' (2 inches) Dang. Thought the OTT method for a cover crop would be easy. Well, it is, but whatevs. Mine in '24 was like 7 feet tall in places. I'm starting to think that the CC, like you say, is like a light left on for incoming, true prospects in late spring. I suppose it's the origin of the name for it. For me, now is the time for me to buy CC seed, but, well, it's not exactly opportune, lol. Later---eric g
