I just posted a picture in my diary of a leaf yellowing issue I’ve got, on one plant in the new patch.
http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=292547
It’s only on one side, seems to have grown out of it and not progressing to the other side or any new growth.
We have just sent in our tissue sample, so Science will tell me if there is an imbalance, or nutrient deficiency, but I’m 8nterst d if any of you have seen this before, and have a diagnosis based on previous experience.
I have consulted a few of my mentors, and am waiting for an overseas reply, but feel feee to post here if you know. I

Whats your watering like is that side getting more water how do you water and what temperature is the water... Just a thought because I cant seem to pin a nutritional cause on those of mine which are doing the yellow spots thing...

Out of the plants you are growing, I would guess it´s your 789 Dixon plant, isn´t it? It has some 1495 Stelts in the pedigree, and some of them show that kind of yellowing of the leaves. Nothing to worry about, in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies so far. Richmond Dave, helpful as usual, So Cal Grower the 57 Chevy is Red, Pumpking it’s the 1985 Miller but I have had this before, and Glenomkins I water from a tank with prewarmed water and overhead water evenly with precision equipment, Spudder you are on to something (I think) and most of my mentors agree on that too. We might know for sure when the Tissue test results come back and confirm the suspicions.
Anyone else have experience with this type of yellowing?

One of my plants has yellow on the outer edges of the leaves. Similar to your picture. I assumed it was from too much bifenthrin. I have often made the mistake of not putting any water into my back sprayer before adding in the chemicals. SO what happens sometimes is that the first plant I spray gets hit with a heavy dose. If it is from bifenthrin I would imagine the labs will come back inconclusive.

I’ve heard that 2145 genetics have these yellow leaves. My 2002 Tobeck has them. Not sure if that’s your issue or not.

NSB is no rookie, and your rivalry with Richmond Dave is epic. Glenn, I had this happen with bigger leaves like this once in 2013, and I believe it was along the lines of what Big Moon stated. I’ve never heard of a genetic thing like this, but we’re always learning. Your plants still look better than mine.

Thanks everyone, I’ll post my tissue test results in my dairy when I get them. For now, I’ll stick with my program and add to my rotation things I learned at Convention.

Hi Glenn — My one and only plant is experiencing the exact problem (up the island from you) I just assumed it was from unusually cold summer temps or crappy soil - we have both here...lol
Looking forward to learning what your test results say ...
Ps. ... my dad and I passed by Mill bay today on our way back from Victoria. I would love to have tried to made arrangements with you to check out your patch but we were in a hurry to get home.

Thanks Ian, I shared your advice with Joe and some of the other local growers who experience the same thing from time to time. The weather definitely cooled for 7-9 days, and that is when it appeared.

Just out of curiosity, what is the PH of your soil? I turned my patch over this past year and apparently dug up alkali. My soil PH is horrible and is now at 8.1. I just posted a photo of my leaves on Instagram.(https://www.instagram.com/acorbins/) Of course, we do experience cold evenings too. I have had this in the past with only minor coloring, but my pumpkins are really displaying this, this year.

I'm having the same issue up island too. Bright yellow spots and some leaves yellowing around the edges - almost like the plant usually is in September.
