I'm trying to get as much grow time as possible because of my short growing season. Doing 20-25 AGs. I can't do that many hoop houses. After germinating in a 16 oz cup and transplanting to a 2 gallon container how much time..roughly..will I have before they need to be planted?

My 1495 Snyder is starting to get root bound after 8 days in a 1 gallon container as of last night. I am transplanting on Sunday after this brief cold snap and rain (day 11). In a 2 gallon, you could easily get 15 days, 20 would be getting pretty bound up in a 2 gallon.

Been using two gallon forever.Luke is correct theyre good for about 20 days.I call it 3.5 leaf stage. When the 4th true leaf is about the size of a siver dollar and the plants not yet reaching out to vine youll have a good root ball but not rootbound. Then they need to go outside.

My other option is 4 gallon buckets. Let me throw that into the mix. I'm also not trying to break any records. Just looking for some nice BNO. The more time I get without worrying about frost the happier I'll be. I've lost tomatoes here to frost before on the 10th of June. Like I said a short season here.

If I do my 4 gallon buckets should I put a soil..compost mix in the bottom half and throw in a few nightcrawlers for good luck? The golf course has been good to me. Picked a couple hundred crawlers at barely light enough to see this morning. The greens were loaded with them.Nice rain last night. Would also like to get about a thousand and turn them loose in the garden..thoughts.

I put Happy Frog, Cocoa ( the good stuff) and a starter mix all mixed up with Azo, Mycos, some worm casting....s Go for it...Toss those crawlers in your patch too... get it straight from the worms butt.

My 3 yr old puts worms in his pillow case and we'll find the a week later. He also leaves them in his jean pockets. I know the smell.

I have just started a seed for the community garden. Last year they did the final till about May 10th. But it is not guaranteed to be open until May 31st. What my plan is...I start them in a small pot, if the garden is not open yet, I will transplant to a bigger, and then even bigger if needed. If it goes until the last minute...might need a forklift to transplant my pot.

Would love to start some more now but I might need three weeks to a month from transplanting from a 16 oz cup. Would love to bypass your second and third step bnot and definitely don't like the forklift idea. It's a bitch when it gets stuck in the middle of the garden. I've got a 14' ladder rack from my old pickup truck that will make a perfect miniature greenhouse. It's sitting on a dark colored concrete slab which absorbs heat daytime. I used it last year for my veggies. No heating required..although I might add a little for night time if needed.

I got chickens now that will take my finger off for the night crawlers... I catch them at night.... used to be for fishing... until I started tying flies...for the SMART fish. I add earth worms to my house plants too...

Smallmouth... My yorkie/aussie dog Bosley watched me catch night crawlers at night... here he now helps gets his own pulls them out himself and drops them on the patio for a treat......

Wizzy, When I was younger I used to pick them at night. Now I pick them barely light enough to see in the mornin. They are exhausted and probably pregnant and they just lay there on the ground exhausted after a rough night. All stretched out on the fairways and greens. No need to fight them out of there holes when they're trying to get a little. Easy pickins.
