What is your guess as to how many gallons of water you use in a season? I know it could vary a lot based on rain fall, type of soil, your location.... Just curious, because I need to order my fertilizer for the year. I want to make sure I have enough, but not an over abundance and I'm basing it on how much water I'll need.

I know for a fact I used about 13,000 gal or more

Think about it. takes around 100 or so days to grow. At 275 a day you would use 27,500 gal. toward the middle of the season I lost 2 plants so I lost interest and cut way back on the watering

Yes, but you are not giving a plant 70 gal. on day 1. Plus if you have a clay soil, 70 gal. a day would flood your plant. I estimated 7500 gal. per plant.

This year put a cheap water meter on your hose. You will be surprised at how much water you actually use per plant. I know of people that say they only use about 30 gal a day. and I know of people who use 80 to 100 gal a day. That 275 that I use is early in the morning and my soil is dry when I get home 9 or 10 hours later. It also might depend on how much SQFT you have the plant in. My patch has been about 2600 and now is 3000 SQFT

7500 divided by 75 gal is 100 so the math works. Some days you might not water as much and some you may water more.

Last year I tried to water my pumpkin plant 145 gallons per day in the summer.

We had zero rain in the month of July and I filled a 250 gal tote every day on my lunch hour watered 250 gals every evening and if I had time on weekends I would get a extra tote full that was for 2 plants 1,000 sq ft each and a 150 sq ft plant, I have clay base silt soil with 9% organic matter I covered the vines in late July with straw mulch also but it wasn't enough soil would be dry every evening. It's a guessing game

Actually the math does not work. My estimate was for the whole growing season, not just after pollination. My estimate also does not take into account how much rain we could get.

I'll look into a meter, I have 10 330 gallon totes I'll be pumping water out of to water my 3 plants. A meter will be the only way I will know for sure how much water I'm giving them.
