Anybody have experience growing AGs near trees. I'm worried about the light. It would not get a lot of light during morning or late afternoon with this be a problem.

I'm in a deep valley with trees on the east and west. I try to let my plants get bigger to make the most of the sun I do get. I get more dew on the plants and it takes longer to dry off in the morning. Fungicides are more important.

we have trees from the foredt on the east side of our patch that block the sun in two east pumpkin sites until around 8:30 or so. The entire patch gets 12 plus hours in mid summer. As long ss you can get eight hours of sun a day you should be fine. Our trees provide great wind protection when the weather kicks up!

This is a yearly struggle. I am surrounded on 3 sides by 150 foot trees. The 4th side has a 2 story house so I only get light 4-6 hours a day depending on the month. Growth is capped for sure and you really need to watch watering as disease is persistent in shade. It can be done though.

How near is near? I would also be concerned with the roots competing for nutrients with the tree.Call don.

My first year growing next to the above diary pics, I had to have an axe to cut through every square yard a foot down. Now each year I pull out up to 6 foot long regrowth (streamer roots). It's a constant battle, but I enjoy the trees more than the garden so they are staying put.

I would call you don. However I am moving to Kentucky my new spot has trees close on 3 sides going to be busy with the chain saw. Plus the ground is crap going to take years to get it right I think.
