Mr buddy propane heater maybe would work, works good at heating my 8 x 14 ice shack. You can get hook up for 20 lb tank, only lasts about 3 or 4 days though.

*grow in 4-5 gallon pot up to 3 weeks before planting outside, *use a small (just big enough) clotche inside your greenhouse so you wouldn't have to heat the whole greenhouse and the plant is doubly insulated *use a small heat source if necessary (keep above 40 degrees if you can......at least above 32 degrees *wait until frost danger has passed before going outside *use a row cover/blanket over clotche at night *cuddle with plant if she looks like a keeper :)

*get a 12V blanket/throw connect to car battery, recharge *get a generator to plug in small heater/s, soil cables, etc *get insulated hoses, circulate hot water through heat exchangers *laser beam from a spaceship at night *hot rocks

It was only cold on the outside chris. And I'm going with laser beam this spring. Anybody have a slightly used rocketship. I would of went with johns, hot water idea, but I can't find a good plumber.

I agree with Cornhusk you shouldn't need to heat if you follow his advice. If you feel you must have a heat source make an old fashioned manure hot bed. I made one back in 2010, it worked well.

Not sure of the affects on the plants when using propane, kerosene, etc. Might adversly affect the plant in a small enclosed space. Oxygen depletion as opposed to carbondioxide or monoxide. Might want to answer that question before using. I know in big greenhouses it might not make a difference but it might in smaller spaces.

With propane you may have to come up with way to vent and draw in some fresh air. Combine some of the ideas above such as smaller hoop inside of green house.

I think Don Youngs kerosene heater isbest to keep frost away. It is hard to say when you don't know how much frost you get in your area.

If I'm not mistaken,, doesn't don light the whole hoop house on fire with gasoline to heat the plants? I remember seeing this in his diary a few years back.

Best to wait to plant until the last frost if no controllable heat source is available. The seedlings will suffer at night and cook in a closed hoopie when the sun comes up.

On your cold nights: eat a big bowl of beans, sleep in the greenhouse, and occasionally vent sleeping bag. Problem solved.

Using propane, kerosine or lamp oil, you must provide ventilation. Fleece would be better than plastic.

There's no problem with propane. Just make sure you have a small hole on the bottom of one side and a 6" hole near the top on the other. Had kerosene wick heater use up all the oxygen once. Opened the door and it lit back up. I use propane and kerosene all the time, plants seem to like it.
