In the coming years I think we should have a new category for all of the auctions. I say we get all the heavy hitters or guys the grow 6 or more plants to go out and plant generic AG seeds and then sell them at the auctions for new genetic breed. Thoughts…

Jake, Why generic AG seeds? What would be the breeding strategy?

Agreed Don but i think it would be interesting to see what they (you) could do with new seeds.

Why even bother with random genetics.. when the best Is created every year... I would have to agree with don... no rental cars in my patch we have so much invested why waste it on an unknown thing... we only have so much time and so much space.. I do however think most of the controlled crosses out there have the ability of growing a whopper in the right hands

I doubt anyone would be interested in growing a seed they don't select, especially with the amount of work involved. Why start from scratch when such a massive amount of breeding/selection has already been done? That being said it could be interesting to compare results, or select new traits, but the task doesn't require convincing a 'heavy hitter'. Anyone interested enough in the experiment could plant out their own blind randomized controlled trial and decide for themselves how they compare and which get a place in their garden the following season. The pedigree seeds and generic would just have to be treated equally. The grower would only need someone else to randomize and document pedigrees so they don't favor individuals.
