Watch for salt content.

I personally would use blood meal. Corn meal is great with nitrogen too and attracts worms like crazy!

Different sources site different levels, but the general NPK numbers I have seen is 3-2-2 up to 5%. Alfalfa offers lots of benefits like adding organic matter, micronutrients, and minerals, but if really low I'd look into something else as an addition to Alfalfa.

depends on the size of your growing area,, if a 1000 sq ft,, 50 lb bag, would work good,, in the spring, add blood meal as well, i use alfalfa pellets every fall, when i cant get manure to add,, it breaks down good here in southern utah,

I used manure from a goat farm that had a lot of waste alfalfa mixed in. That's a cheap way to get a lot of alfalfa and I can certainly recommend alfalfa based on the results. Depends how deficient you are... extra nitrogen won't grow a bigger pumpkin only a bigger plant really. I think the pumpkin is a separate subject nutritionally. . .My opinion.
