Very interesting topic. I think that everybody shares the opinion, that the 2145 is a very very special seed. It has outperformed all other seeds is year and this is just the first year out. Pumpkins from this seed were consistently heavy and had also a huge volume, so it will be really hard to find the perfect cross partner. So maybe just a 2145 x 2145? There where also some very good 1781 Zywiecs out there this year which went down early. 2145 x 1781 sounds good. I do also like Russes cross very much: 2145 x 2109.

if i can get my hands on the wr seed...next year i will be trying to make the 2624.6 Willemijns x 2096.6 Meier ( 2 of 12 progeny on the scale at over 2150) cross.

2009 X 2145. The 2145 worked very good with the 1625 as its pollinator to add super heavy to the mix of big OTT. The last few 2009'S grown have also gone super heavy and big inches like Ron's 2307 which was heading for 2400-2500. The 2145 has shown big OTT and a very heavy over the chart heavy for most grown. I can only imagine the possible outcome if this cross was made and the mix worked!

I'm sure next year I will sit and ponder what to cross with my 2145 plants.. maybe self.. or sib... maybe 1625....maybe even 1338 Martin.. but we have all winter to ponder...

Leaning towards 2145 McMullen x 1975 Wallace for next year

2145 McMullen x 2075 Connolly is a possibility too if I can get a 2075 seed. I like that 1961 Sperry and the 2230 pollinator grew the biggest 2230 offspring this year (1944lbs).

This is not a dream cross. Just a theoretical cross based on the oldest breeding strategy there is for animal or plant breeding if the desired trait is big. Go biggest x biggest. Yet also a long term crossing strategy is go thick walls heavy to the chart x big shell ott.

So cross the crazy heavy to chart biggest shell to record ott i believe x a big ass shell.

And do you go with the parents or the babies which maybe captured lightening in a bottle.

2145 x 1385.5 H/J either way for parents
2624.6 x 2106 either way for big babies with 484" ott 1% heavy x 496.5" ott 21% heavy.

Hopefully good quality and good counts on many great crosses this year.

I got to go with Dave 1585.5 x 2145 or 2145 x 1585.5 , the 1585.5 did not get mass planting this year and still poped some real good fruit.

I think that the 2145 McMullen is the seed to use to make good new genetics in the future. This year I grew the 2145 and it was a very good plant. I also made some good crosses.
-1333lbs (2145 McMullen x 1975 Wallace) + 7% Heavy. It is also our PB.
-994lbs (1975 Wallace x 2145 McMullen) + 4% Heavy. This pumpkin has stopped growing at DAP 60 due to a rot on the main vine.
-741lbs (1789 Wallace "The Freak" x 2145 McMullen) unfortunately -5% light.
We had a good count of seeds from 1333 and 994, very low from 741.

If I had one I would self the 2624 and see what those seeds produce. I also like the suggestions above.
