Hi all, perhaps it looks like a normal AG plant to some of you, but I found this main vine amazing:
http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=267188
What makes a main vine grow as thick as in case of that monster? Is it genetics (did others experience this feature with 2009 Wallace plants)? Or is it the soil or any special thing added to the soil or plant (do main vines like this appear in the Wallaces´ patches or in some other growers´ patches, no matter what seed had been planted)?
Thanks alot in advance for helpful hints.

Hi, I think it is a combination of factors that could make it possible. Sure some genetics shows bigger vines than others, but I guess there is a good point also in a proper nutrition and richness of mycorrizal fungi and beneficial bacteria in the soil that help plants building up a strong root system. That microbial and fungal activity in the rhyzosphere help plant producing on their own growth hormones like auxins and cytokin insurance that are responsible on cell division and elongation of plant and fruit tissue. Just my two cents as I am far from being a top grower for sure

Not really sure about the vine, but that's a heck of a nice pumpkin. Good luck pap, I hope it goes heavy for ya.

My vines were much larger than the past 4 years of growing. I contribute the large vines to my excessive nitrogen this year. My N was at least double what it has been in all the past years.
