Ok, I learned the hard way yesterday. My squash off of the 1165 Holub was taping at 1165 pounds and was picked this past Thursday. A 720km one way trip, which I have done 13 times before with no problems, caused the squash to split.

I have never had anything this big before. My personal best is my 825.5 squash back in 2009 (which Eddy, still is the Alberta record!) I figured a 4x4 pallet would still be ok with a few inches overhang.
It weighed light at 965 pounds, but would have still been an Alberta record and first place in Smoky. I know the walls in some spots were very thin and where the crack occurred was one of them. I was actually surprised this one made it out of the patch and didn't split on the vine.
Anyways, we learn from our mistakes. Just thought I would let everyone know about mine so others may not make the same one I made.
If anyone has any other suggestions how to avoid this problem, please let us know here.
Even though I bug Eddy, we all know he's the nicest guy in the world and felt really bad for me. He passed on a strap he picked up a few weeks ago to help transport future big fruit. Thanks, Eddy. I feel your pain about your squash not making it to the scale as well.
Eddy, next year........bring it on!
