SO its been pretty rough year. started out with 7 plants. Got hit with 115 mph wind in June. Had some nice pumpkins going after plants recovered from the storm. SO far have lost all but one. The only one I have now the stump was foaming a month ago and now today I noticed a tiny drip of ooze coming out of the blossom end. This pumpkin was going to be used as a display pumpkin. What are my chances of this pumpkin lasting into October? Should I leave it on the vine or cut it and put it in a cool barn? I understand there are ups and downs in this sport been doing it for 25 years but it can be very frustrating sometimes. Thanks for any input. best of luck to you all the rest of the season.

That happened to my 2002 Hawkey last year about this time. The drip solidified, and I just left it alone. The pumpkin continued to grow until I harvested it for a late September weigh off. It weighed 1300+.

Apply hydrogen peroxide directly to the stump one time per day early in the am. I went to Menards and bought 8 bottles. cover the area. Let the sun hit the stump during dry weather. Apply hydrogen peroxide to the blossom end and keep it clean by wiping down the fruit with the peroxide and water. Use a fan to keep all of it dry. Check for SVB along vine and if there is presence, I would buy Malathion and apply it early am 2 T to one gallon of water by drench or foliar spray. So far, this is working for me. This year is very warm and wet for our area and yours, so we are probably fighting many bugs and diseases in common. Let me know if this helps.

I mean "cover the area" look for any places where the SVB is possibly entering under vines, etc.
