Faust 1892 x self @372 OTT on Wednesday on evening inspection found a large crack develop on blossom end that went all the way thru cavity:( wondering if the veteran growers could shed a little light on this subject, is this a genetic trait, could I be overfeeding,my soil test was very well balanced, does this just happen on occasion? looking for some info to sooth the pain, I m a second yr grower had a goal of 1200 lbs, and was well on my way, but maybe next yr, please any info would be appreciated, tks.

Blossom splits happen, genetics ,temperatures,What axis the fruit lies on. Theres definitely luck involved be it good or bad.

Could be genetic. Could be uneven watering. If you let them get too dry then water too much or get a big rain, they can split.

Certainly bonus portions at the buffet with irregular water patterns will do the trick!

I have had BES in 2012, 13, 14 and now 2016. My calcium was up there and rest of nutrients good. The one that split Thursday had symmetrical lobes. We will go from dry for weeks with consistent 110 heat index and high humidity then get 3 inches of rain in 2 hours. That and a shaded yard have proven detrimental.
