I posted the other day about a pumpkin that shut down on me. 3 days holding at 271" convinces me she is done.

But I see no obvious damage, cracks, rot, etc.

So I would like to try to save it for a weigh-in if possible.

Our weigh-in is really non-competitive, and it's quite early--September 16.

So, I am wondering if you guys have ever tried to park a pumpkin in a dark part of your garage, all in an effort to save one for the fair.

If its not rotting inside, yes, I have had them last in a cool garage for a month....just keep an eye on it, it will sag first

Last year one of mine (850 lbs.) set on display for over three weeks in the local grocery store produce department and then they said I could have it back and I sold it to a local pub for their Halloween event the following week. Both businesses donated a $100 to the local poultry club.
I do wash, and dry, all my pumpkin and squash that I over winter with a weak bleach solution to kill the bulk of the surface molds.

Ive had 2 last in the yard for a month with stem rotting off. I cut stem off and treated the stem rot. both pumpkins made it to weigh offs solid.

Last year I had one shut down around this time, it lasted until November. I just picked it and put it in the shade.
