I think that wixom- grower will get a ten pounder, then Ron will grow 2500+ Those blooms you have Chris are amazing, I hope you at least get a new WR Ron just keeps perfecting his art. very fun to watch both, and everyone else who are pushing the limits.

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=33&p=514274 Its fun to read back on the old boards! This is back right before I weighed the 8.41! Both records could fall this year...I know of 3 friends I talk to on a regular basis have pumpkins over WR pace! And I know one who has a couple tomatoes over WR pace! Let the sleepless nights begin!

I think it is the year for both. There has been a lot of higher than usual heat in the midwest. Those night time temps are way up there. In the last five years there has been an increasing amount of interest in other large vegetables, especially tomatoes. If you look over the last few years, the average higher tomato weights have really gone up. Who would of bid $80 for tomato seeds five years ago at an auction. Publicity of tomatoes on the diaries and info sharing really peaks peoples interest to want to improve, and they do. I place all bets on a 10lb+ Wixom tomato! Better not be 9.99!

That's a 9% increase on pumpkins and 17 % on tomatoes. I think 2500 is more like likely. If tomatoes were easier to pollinate/control genetics I think we would already be at 12 lbs.

Wixom appears to have the tomato pollination figure out. He has inspired me to try my own next winter. Cross them indoors grow world records outdoors. It is looking like it will be a great year for all things giant.
