no joke. my boy was shooting his pellet gun and one must have deflected. anyway I now have a hole as wide as a pencile and 3" deep in the front of my small squash. It doesn't go to the cavity but still it will likely rot. Should I make the wound bigger so it can dry out and heal?

no-making it bigger will only promote more problems.
treat the area with a fungicide,keep area dry and it should heal.
