So this Pumpkin is not doing so hot. The stem end is shriveled looking and the growth rate has slowed down to an inch a day. This seems to be a trait with all of the fruit that I have had on this plant to this point. I haven't had any others develop to this size but all of my culls seemed to have narrow shoulders and a bit of a wrinkled look around the stem. do you think this is a genetic thing, or could it be environmental or disease related?

All of them on the same plant exhibiting the same feature, even at very early stage? Sounds like a genetic thing to me. Any other things about this plant which could be unusual (e.g., sterile males)?

I had a similar looking pumpkin last year. It was pear shaped. It didn't have bumps like yours does. Mine ended up at 1058#. Most of the ones on my plant looked that way. Just like Pumpking said, could be genetic if you are seeing that on multiple pumpkins on the plant.

Just a guess that your seed may have been pollinated last year by a bee carrying pollen from some other type of squash

From my 1452 LaRue I had a nearly identical pumpkin. Consistently had football shaped females. Mine aborted at 26 days after slowing down. Looked just like yours. I think the general shape is genetic and the rains we had a few weeks ago in the North West, combined with poor drainage caused disease. My plant, leaves, and stems were super huge with an over abundance of N from all the water. The yellow in the stems turned to a mustard yellow during this time.

..and the bumpiness on the shoulder half and slow growth, at least for mine, was all part of its slow death. The blossom end kept growing while the shoulder part didn't. I really hope this nicer weather we are having helps.

Hey steve, looks genetic but environment is always a factor. 1" per day sounds like it may not be set. The one in the july 17 photo looked better.--best of luck

Ok, I had on that was so tight at the shoulder it dill ringed on me at about 14 days, whole all the way through. I have two more with the same symptoms, a seed from my 1138 has never grown one like this. I suspect, as I ODed the nitrogen and we have had much more rain for this time year, mine was not genetics.

Well The Pumpkin is toast. I did an autopsy and there was a dill ring split on the inside. It probably wouldn't have lasted long if it had continued to grow.
