Has anybody here ever used Growstone? I noticed a skid of the stuff at work and it said that it's better than perlite, so I went to the website and found that they have a product that is designed for mixing with soil. It is made from recycled glass.

This is something that I'm considering for next year because the soil here is pretty heavy and doesn't drain as well as I would like. I added 4 yards of mushroom soil in the spring and it made a big difference- I plan on adding more in the fall, but I don't want to overdo it because of the salts. Now I'm thinking I might try the Growstone product and less of the mushroom soil.

I would be wary about putting anything with recycled glass in my garden. Might just be me?

Reminds me of the Mayor of the next city over from me. Years ago, and I mean years ago, the city decided to use asphalt that had recycled glass in it to save money. It would be great they said. Well after two years, and some wear on the road, the little glass particles started to pop up. You can pretty much guess what happened next. It took years, and millions to fix that mess.

I have to believe that there is something better out there for you to use. I have been wrong before though.

There won't be much vehicle traffic in my patch, so hopefully I will have better luck than the mayor.
