I have read on here that AG fruit grow at night. But I know Carolina Cross watermelons grow during the day when they are young. I have a young 18 day AG fruit and carefully took it's first OTT measurement early this morning and it was 137".Then about 7 this evening I took the OTT again just to see if there was any growth and it had added one inch in each of the three measurements. Or by the chart I am using has added 3 pounds during daylight hours going from 61 to 64 pounds. So does daytime growth go on during the critical period of cell division ? I did use Anthesis so perhaps at 18 days my pumpkin is still doing some cell division ? Your thoughts please.

where you hold tape changes 1 day big gain next less gain then it repeats

I know all about how the tape is held making a difference and yes I have seen extra large gains and almost no gains from one day to another. This was not the case today however. The pumpkin clearly is growing a little bit during the day at least right now.

Rule is they mostly grow at night, but I have always got about 20-30% of my growth during the day. This might be because I am in heavy shade after 2pm through the entire patch.

I work 12hr shifts and measure in morning and then when I get home and the 1676 I have grows all day and night about equally(not very well, but it grows)It's in the ICU, so growing very slow. Some pumpkins I've had have grown mostly over night too.

i think that the only way to truly test this theory is to measure at 8am and at 8 pm and compair the results ! i dont know anyone who really measures their pumpkin before they go to bed at night !i think that most people look at their pumpkin 10-20 times during the day and it always looks the same and the the go to bed and dont see it for 10-12 hours and notice the change ??? just my opinion.but i bet the difference from day to night is far less than we believe !!! i think that it is more like a 60/40 from day to night.

I think it has a lot to do with measurement technique. Only true way to tell would be with a scale.
