Cant say for sure. In 7 years i never had anything eat one of my plants. I pollilated first plant two days ago at around 11ft out. This am the tip of my main vine and a couple of leafs near by, surgically amputated. Ive not had to deal with varmin in the past thus am clueless as to the best solution. I will note that i had not used insect pesticides this year yet. Do they deter nibbling? Couple more questions about whether the next secondary down the line become the new main? How much will the severing of the main vine by this pest affect the growth? Thanks for any suggestions

Sorry to hear this. I don't know how much this will affect growth. I had a deer walk right between two plants 2 weeks ago. All those side vine tips pointing up in the air. I could not believe that it did not nibble on any of the new growth ! I think that this deer did in fact smell the insecticides that I was spraying, and that is what saved me. just my opinion though. Deer have super noses, but, I doubt that a woodchuck can smell that good. I'm not sure if the insecticides would deter rodents. I would start your spraying either way, its about that time for the bugs to start flying in.

I've been lucky here w the gooffers as well, knock on wood...I do know that once they get a taste, they'll be back...at the very least I would sprinkle w some cayenne pepper on all the tips asap...happen to a buddy down the street two year,s ago...first the main...second day two more vine tips...next day..almost all....he put the fence I got for him up after that though...

I have had rabbits knawing away at my yellow beans. I tried bug powder and I think all it did was act as icing sugar on the cake. I agree with pork chop. Spice up the leaves. I actually didn't think that varments cared for pumpkin plant. I guess I was wrong. I know they like the fruit. Ecspecially mice and rats.

I had lots of gopher damage this year... I felt like Bill Murray in Caddyshack for a while trying to outsmart the creatures... the .17 helped the situation. Now I have rabbits and deer... Liquid Fence is a cheap attempt to deter them.. it does work if applied often.
