I have two females on the main vine of one plant that are one leaf node apart, and they look like they could open on the same day. They are pretty much identical in size....younger one(one node closer to the main vine tip) actually looks slightly larger on the bulb part. Is it possible they would open on the same day? Or does the younger one always open later? I'm guessing they'll open in around July 6 give or take a day.
If they do open the same day, would you pollinate both, or just one? I'm wondering if pollinating both so close together(on the same day) would create too much competition?
I should add that these would be the first pollinations on the plant, and I'm hoping one will be the keeper.

I dont think it would make any difference.When there that small the plant can feed & develop both.

I had the exact same scenario in 2011 on a 1193 Kevin Snyder plant. I pollinated them the same morning, and I will have to go back and look to see which one I chose. Its in my diary under zappa.

U may want to set the vine up for one of them before they start to put size on.

This happened to me on a 603.5 in 2010 i believe. I pollinated both but one was the clear leader. I forget which.

Pollinate both. Let them grow side by side and hope they join into one big ass pumpkin. lol Hey they do it with tomatoes!!!
Actually i think this is a good problem to have but I would bet on the kin closest to the stump stealing all the juice. Please give us an update at day 10. Interesting.

I read the title and really wanted to throw out a vulgar "back when I was in college" comment, but seriously pollinate both and I bet the plant dictates what wins. If not go with bigger and better positioned.
