Looking for some advice on what is a good number of vines on each side of the plant before pollinating a p-kin. I have a p-kin that is close to 12 feet out and I want to make sure I have enough plant behind the p-kin to fuel it. Due to space, the widest my plant can be is 20 feet. It is an agonizing thought process on whether to cut this one off and hope for another.(WWAPGD) What would a pumkin grower do? SOS, please help!! Mark G.

Hey Mark, I like a minimum of 8-10 per side and also have 12' secondaries. Check out my diary, strangely enough I posted growing patterns that work for me...

I like a minimum of 8 per side.I think you have to weigh in pollination time frame and patch size with that decision.

Sweep sides around in front of kin and let them grow, keep the 12' if your worried. I'd still pollinate one out farther if you could with temps. Cooling down.

Christie had that big one at 9 feet and Daletas likes his between 20 and 25 feet out so who knows. Go for it Tanner and we'll find out!;)

If at 12 feet screw counting secondaries that's stupid anyhow its late june just pollinate it and grow it if it takes, time now more important, the kin will not reach max growth for 25 days after pollination a whole lot of growth and rooting will happen before then!
