I have two 2020.5 Werners next to each other. One needs to get cut very soon. Both have issues. One has a kinked main close to the stump. It was never bad enough to leak and shows no cracks of any kind. I am hoping as it grows , it will push the kink out a little.
The other plant has a main that pulled apart at a leaf node. It is all healed and I plan on keeping it cover all season. It must have happened when the plant was very small , as I never noticed it until last week. I have had similar situations in the past, where vines split open. I personally dont think you loose much with a vine split, as long as the split runs parallel with the vine. You just need to keep it dry until it heals up.
Both plants are growing good at this s time.
I am going to try to post both pics below. If I cant get the pics up, please check out the last few entries in my diary, under zappa, thank you.

That kinked vine doesn't look too bad, I'd go with it.

That kink is barely a kink, I'd go with that. Splits are okay and usually heal, but why risk rot when the plant with a kink is in tact 100%?

Kinky it is then ! That plant actually has better side vines growing, so that will be the one. Thanks fellas for your input.
