This year is my first year growing pumpkins, I only have a single vine due to space constrains in my backyard, I definitely love it though as the vine is very impressive and grows exceptionally fast.
I have a single pumpkin growing on the vine but today i noticed that there are 2 small holes on the pumpkin that seem to be from some sort of insect, I have attached a picture to show the damage.
Does this pumpkin look salvageable or should i cut it off the vine? There are about 5 female flowers on the vine so i would like to know if you guys have any tips on how to prevent this from happening again.
It is a Big Max pumpkin btw.

Looks like some kind of slug or worm. If the hole doesn't go into the pumpkin cavity, it should make it. Use more insecticide and fungicide and keep the pumpkin dry. If you have a back up pumpkin set go with it instead.

Agreed with Ron, you might want to somehow make sure the worm isn't in there. I'm not sure what else it could be. At a minimum, I'd have it growing over sand, and then tuck a white sheet all around it each day\night to help keep new pests from bothering it. I've had vine borers bore into my fruit a half inch or so and had to cut them out, but the hole was bigger and not so clean cut. The pkn just scarred over.

Unfortunately the pumpkin didn't make it, It started going bad 2 days after I posted here. I was treating the pumpkin vine with neem oil 2 times per week but it looks like that didn't sway whatever got to it.
The good thing is that the vine seems to be thriving and has grown a lot more since the beginning of the month, There are around 5 female flowers and it looks like one of them has set (I assume it has set since the little pumpkin is already slightly bigger than a golf ball).
I will start treating it with Sevin and see what happens, I don't like using synthetic insecticide but I also don't want to continue loosing pumpkins.
