No go after eight days. Dug down at five days to see what was going on. No root, but it wasn't waterlogged. I'll give it until Day 14.

Squeeze the seed a little if its rotted a little stinky juice will push out the hole in the tip. If its firm then theres still a chance

i still have the first no go sitting in soil..it has been 6 days...it is still firm. I soaked 2 more seeds last night and put them in starting mixture. If these dont go, I will try gibberelic acid for the first time even though I have been cautioned against using it. I guess growing big orange might not be so easy.

Late last fall I did a test germination on that 1912 before I sent any seeds out to anybody. I filed then soaked them for six hours in just water and had 17 out of 20 sprout in 48 hours. They were in an incubator set at 85 degrees. I did the damp paper towel method. I also started 6 more for myself a week ago and had 5 sprout in 48 hours. So they are not 100% and I feel bad for the people that purchased them at club auctions. So if you purchased a 1912 seed and it did not germinate and you would like to try another I have a few left. I would be more than happy to send them to you asap. My email is cartertracy1@hotmail.com

update...of the 2 seeds i started 5 days ago, one is up. The other i carefully dug out of the starting mixture and discovered that seed was still firm with no root. As an experiment, i am soaking this 5 day dormant seed in a 300 ppm solution of gibberellic acid. Have nothing to lose and some knowledge to be gained.

I think we have to accept that Bill Foss is on another level up from most growers.

12 days to get out of the soil all others 4-5 days. I will have to help it out of the seed coat tonight if is doesn't shed it today, at day 14. Glad it is a back up.

I started 2 in separate germination chambers, both broke soil today. 60 hours at 85 degrees. Sanded and soaked for 8 hours.

2/2: One was out in 4 days, the other 4.5 days. Soaked in water and hydrogen peroxide for 3 hours. Used plastic 5 inch pots and covered with saran wrap and held in place with rubber band. Temp ranged 84-86 deg. Checked daily, kept soil moist, not wet and made sure some water was applied to the shell to keep it nice and pliable.
