I just had a seed germinate and as it was pushing up through the soil I noticed the cots were damaged and split. how is this going to turn out for me? this is a extremely sought after seed and I do not wish to terminate it. But if there is no future for it I need to start over asap. THanks in advance to any one who responds

Don,t do anything drastic till the replacement is up and running . You may be surprized. Jim Treat it like a winner.

I haven't paid much attention to them as the plant grows, but I think the cots eventually dry up and fall off anyway. I'd try to keep the plant healthy, and prevent further damage to the cots. The first true leaf, and ultimately the whole vine system will come from between the two cots. Good luck!

One year I had woodchucks eat the cots and the first true leaf on a lot of pumpkins and everybody survived except for the woodchuck.

I am guessing that Big T, put the woodchucks on a total lead diet? Peace, Wayne

I have a seed that just sprouted a few days ago, and somehow had very badly burned cotys. I mean almost the entire set was crispy. Guess what... 2 days later, and it has new growth and the burned up cotys have fanned out to catch some rays off the LEDs!

I thought for sure it had no chance...

I imagine a rip is far less severe than what I have going.
