I expanded my patch recently, but have run out of room to run my plants in the desired direction. I usually run my plants east/west as our heaviest winds typically come from those directions. In past experience it seemed like I battled rolled side vines/battered plants when the wind would hit them from the side. Is this typically the case or could this have been just abnormal gusts? Is there anything extra that can be done to prevent damage before it happens? I've always ran bamboo stakes to brace vines and heavy snow fencing around the perimeter. Thank you for any response. -Dave

I am not great at this yet but I think if it were me I'd plant towards the winds, or plant them the same but just bury the vines a bit deeper, may help, not sure.

wind can shift in any direction so id just concentrate on 1.better wind protection once the plant comes out of a greenhouse 2.vine bury as plant grows ( most important )stakes alone will not stop roll over of vines pap

I put up a silt fence that is 3ft high. I got mine from Lowes. They last a few years depending on the wind. My plants are in an open area. I plant and have them grow out to the east. Hope this helps.

At my local construction store, I can buy a 100 ft roll w/wooden post every 10 ft. It's the orange fencing stuff that construction places put up cause the government tells them they have to do so. It's fairly cheap & good wind protection. I sorta split it, and put it up on the windy sides. Peace, Wayne
