In order to keep growing bigger/better pumpkins growers have to try new growing techniques. What are you going to use or what are going to try differently this year to set a personal best?

Thanks, Mark G.

With kid 3 on the way and money now being appropriated away from the garden I suggest birth control for a state record.

I will be adding more diligence this year. Soil test came back my best ever so a few amendments and lots of me paying attention to the patch.

Using Growth Products Essential 1-0-1 this year for the first time and tilled super deep at 18" this year.I have been growing 3 total the last 2 years and am going with just 1 pumpkin on 600 sqft this year

Slim, don't go with one. At 600 sq ft I'd do two with 300 each and I bet most on here would agree. Too much can go wrong with one. I tried that a few times.

I spent way more money than I probably should have and added a screen house structure over the whole 3900 sq ft. My answer to battling wind, I hope

Got a 1,500 gallon water storage tank for my low water issues that happen every Summer. A truck will deliver water when that runs low. Also, a small 2 gallon fertilizer injector inline with my drip lines.

Last fall I rented a skid loader and dug out part of the garden. I used the soil to build up lower areas, so I have better drainage and maybe less flooding problems. Less area to care for as well. And we are expanding our long gourd trellis and cutting back the number of plants to get better air circulation and less fungus problems.

Luke, love your sense of humor! and Congratulations on the little one headed your way, you always need more farm help.

I am constantly amazed, inspired and shamed by the effort some of you put out. I basically throw seeds at the ground and stand back. If I built a greenhouse over the patch it would take some serious explaining to the better half. I get enough flack over the all the chickens. We have an incredible (and large) garden and as I seem to get a little older every year it is a question of where to put in the energy.
I do have a co2 unit from one of the old greenhouses, now maybe when no one is looking I could just sneak that and a hoop house over one patch.....?

Thank you C.S.

One thing I am going to do is not rush everything. Too many times I become careless and kick a rake, step on a board wrong etc and have broken many of vines and even snapped a main vine. I forget who, but someone years back suggested not to work in the garden after a night out on the town or after a few beers. Could not agree more... been there too!

Alot of changes for me this year. My patch size has increased by 1200 sq feet. I have started the plants 20 days earlier. Had a soil test for the first time in 4 years. Adding a drip irrigation system with fertilizer injection. Growing 4 pumpkins this year, most ever before was 2 last year. Also growing watermelon, giant carrots, tomato, marrow and giant radish for the first time this year. Hoping for new pb.
