Cut male flowers the night before they open and bring inside...be there when the female opens...(about 6:50am in central ny)..gently tie off flower with soft string/rubber band when the deed is done..

use a bread tie, a piece of string, a zip tie, or something to GENTLY tie the tip of the female closed the night before it opens. I use a 6 oz paper dixe cup to cover them and keep them dry also.
Cut the males and put them in water in the house overnight.
in the morning cut th petals off of the males (don't shake them around or the pollen will fall off)
go to the patch before 10 am (8 seems to work best for me) and remove whatever you have secured the female with
FIGHT off the bees (this isn't always as easy as it sounds)
use the males like a paint brush to put the pollen on the female parts
close the female blossom back up (it will be pretty brittle, so be careful)
stick the cup back over it and shade it from the sun.
Good luck
