Montana can get snow clear up to may 1st,and we had snow last year July 4th.You can lay down black plastic to heat the soil if that would work for you.In July we have 95 degree weather as well and I stick a fan in the patch to keep the air moving. Our humidity is 12-15% at that time as well and water often.Good luck over your way

To plant when? A frost will kill the plants. Need hoops up and soil inside warm and toasty. If you're talking 95 for pollination you can use ice chunks to cool pumpkin area.

I'm just down the road from you - spoke to you at Altoona. This is my second year growing, and was hoping to start earlier than I did last year (around May 10), but this colder weather has me wondering also.

DJW, do you mean April? The old magic pollination date was by July 10th, but more and more hope for a mid to late June pollination. I read this today in the Ron Wallace transcript and I'd take his word. I'd plan on 60 days of growth as well before pollination so I'd start by April 15th, but I'm not up as far north as you guys.

community garden..guaranteed to be open for planting by may 31....by my calculation a 4 ft x 6 ft x 18 inch temporary pot will weigh about 2000 pounds. I dont know if my 1954 allis wd45 can lift it..but i am willing to take a chance...how soon can i germinate a seed...with 90% chance that it wont outgrow the 4x6 by june 1. please the excuse the ...it is how i have typed on internet for 20 years

clear plastic warms the ground better than black

Smallmouth, last year was my fist, so I wasn't sure what to do. I started seeds indoors on May 1st and had them outside on May 10th. First pollination was June 27th if I recall correctly.

I was saying I'd like to transplant earlier than last year's transplant date of May 10th.

Cool ground = stall and yellow plants for me Paul. Get soil heat cables in for early starts or just wait.
The further south you are you should plant later because it is not good to hold a kin in Sept when it has basically quit and 90% humidity for 12 hour periods every night. For me I have started seeds in mid April here and have changed to later for an Oct. weighoff. Last year I started seeds on May 2
