non thermostatic roof gutter cables work great ..really tough...I'm thinking 7 watts per foot ..you can get up to a 100 ft long from the big box stores. I have used them in conjunction with a digital heat mat t-stat with soil probe , stick the probe in the ground ,set the desired temp ..your done

I love all of Hollands products, but they no longer offer (because they are not being produced) the heavy duty cables with the thermostat built in. The cables they currently carry are very difficult to remove from the soil without breaking. I bought the heavy duty cable and separate thermostat from more electric heating. Wrapon 18700 is $33.15 and the 40 foot cable is $34.71.

Hollands cables are awesome and a great price they DO have a built in thermostat that shuts off at 74 degrees F which is awesome no need to keep hearing a plant when it's already hot. check it out at hollands land o giants.

Wiz , What size hole you putting 80' cables in , that would kill me digging those in.I believe Hollands only sells the light wire type now, they are orange or blue, gray wire is heavy duty

They have all sizes....I got the 48 footers...enough for 6' X 6' area... So I look at wattage used... since Ill be heating up 5 areas... at 48 '= 300 Watts each..all off the same input, so I know my capacity. After all we stress them purty good here with cold and snow. A ground fault isolator is a good idea. since we water, and have critters to monitor... I have had mine trip a few times....
