Hello Everyone!

Spring is right around the corner, and it’s time to put all of those long laid, winter plans into action! Before you know it planting weather will be here, and we will all be keeping our eyes on that 10-day forecast, eager to put those seedlings in the ground!

Rocky Mountain Giant Vegetable Growers is excited to announce that the Spring Meeting will be held March 19th, at the Hudson Gardens (6115 S Santa Fe Dr., Littleton, CO 80120) from 8:30AM – 12:30PM. It is very important that you attend this meeting as we have lots to discuss!

After 10 years of germinating, fertilizing, and pruning, putting massive amounts of time and effort into growing the Rocky Mountain Giant vegetable Growers club into a 70+ member organization Gary, “Sky Wizzy”, is taking a step back and letting this seed grow even further. The club has grown now to the point where, in order to continue on the path of greatness, we must look at greater structure, including elected positions to plan club events, meetings, incentives, and more!

Wiz has done a fantastic job over the last 10 years, and we as a club can take what he started and continue to grow, improve and evolve the club for the next 10! But it will take several of us stepping up BIG to help, and we would like everybody to get involved.

The positions which will be elected initially by popular vote are as follows:
•    President
•    Vice President
•    Secretary
•    Treasurer

We would also like to have a board of directors including an Events manager, Head of communications, and Webmaster so that the load of maintaining those areas can be evenly distributed across the board, and nobody gets overburdened. Please consider volunteering or being nominated for any position – we need your help!

Once Nominations are received we will have elections take place via E-mail, however, let’s start this year off right and have a strong showing at the meeting. Your voice matters! Because of the changes taking place the meeting will be very informal, we want as much member input as possible. Donuts, bagels and various other snacks and finger foods will be provided, as well as water – you are encouraged to bring a food item to share, or a couple dollars to throw into the pot. We are also working on getting some sweet prizes for members that show up to aid the discussion, including seed donations, shirts, and more.

At this meeting we will have an informal Q & A with some of the movers and shakers in the local pumpkin scene. Think of some questions to ask. For example: Ask Joe how he keeps growing pumpkins so darn big, what is his secret??? Or specifically, how much water do you use per plant, when do you try to pollinate, will singing to my pumpkin really help it grow? You ask they will tell!

It is going to be a great year for growing, and I think we will have many new personal bests and maybe even some new records? Let’s all work together to make the rest of the country take notice of everything we have growing here in the Mile High city!

This was a club released post from Calvin and Chad supporting the RMGVG.

Please make every effort to attend this Saturday.

I want to thank everyone for their support of the club over the past ten years. Its been a pleasure to help grow the passion of growing Giant fruits and vegetables across the Rocky Mountain Region.

I plan to take some much needed time off to go fishing and to beat the largest carp record caught by the Paton boys who taught me all their secrets...

I wish everyone the best of growing luck in the 2016 season....

gary deserves a ton of gratitude for everything he has accomplished keeping this club afloat in colorado.

it would be a shame to see his efforts go south due to a lack of interest from the membership.time for people to step into the mix.

thanks again gary for all your contributions to the gpc as well as the growers of colorado.
