In this context and in context of other "Teams" as well, I have been wondering what this "Team" really stands for (in terms of actually being a team growing pumpkins, in terms of doing this kind of sports as team sports). There have been teams at weigh-offs, teams of people who had grown the one pumpkin which hit the scales, and therefore the team had then been honored for their achievement, basically the same meaning of a team like it is in other team sports. What´s the point of calling a bunch of growers a team if they don´t play the game in a team but want to be honored as individuals?...just trying to understand the difference between a team and a club. Opinions and explanations are more than welcome. Thanks alot in advance.

Yes we must not overthink such things,The whole idea of a Team is to have the same goal. Our goal is to have fun in the sun as a group.Growing giants & sharing information. We will claim success as a team at seasons end.If we enjoyed our group effort. We also have our individual accomplishments as we are miles apart. That being said it would be impossible to have a Team as you suggest. If you look at the flyer on the Home page the WWGG is a team of growers.Quite simple really.Of course you can always find fault in anything if you try hard enough. Please Join us! Pumpking!!!

Pumpkinking, My opinion its a slang use of the word team. I came across an informal definition. "used before another word to form the name of a real or notional group that supports or favors the person or thing indicated" Kind of like team coke, team pepsi, team obama, team apple, etc... Some people love him, some people hate him, some don't know what to think... He is the coach, guide, teacher, quarterback, backseat driver, master, sensei, or maybe he is the mascot... Bubba

from wikipedia: Team
"A team becomes more than just a collection of people when a strong sense of mutual commitment creates synergy, thus generating performance greater than the sum of the performance of its individual members."
Interdependent Teams, one players performance effects the whole team = football, baseball, basketball etc.
Independent Teams one players performance has no effect on the whole team= sales team, Team Bubba, BP in general

Teams normally have members with complementary skills and generate synergy through a coordinated effort which allows each member to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.

Collectively as a group we can each grow a larger pumpkin then if it was just us working alone. Bouncing off ideas, sharing success and failures, the learning curve is not as step... in theory. That is why I am drinking the Kool-aid, at least this year

Hi guys, thank you for the explanation. The reason why I asked this question is: When I started growing giant pumpkins some guys (they called themselves "Team Heavy East" grew a new German record pumpkin. This was the first time I encountered the word "TEAM" in the context of pumpkin growing, and it made quite alot of sense to me, because the three of them had put alot of effort into growing this big fruit and they also had been awarded the prize as a team. Hence, I´m not trying to find any fault here, I just tried to understand the reason for forming this other kind of "teams". Of course, the definition of independent teams applies, but as you correctly mentioned, Tom, BP in general is such a kind of team (that´s my opinion, too), because of the exchange of information, many friendly guys helping each other and all of them having the same goal during their pumpkin season.
In the same sense, WWGG already is some kind of such a team (at least that´s what I understand Mark wanted to achieve by starting WWGG), and this makes me wonder if "Team Bubba" would merely be a synonym for WWGG or if it would be something completely different.

Anyway, one thing is for sure, Bubba is a very special mascot.
