Has anyone in the fall after harvest dug along the stump and main vine (root pit) to see the depth of the root mass

I do it every year.. It's impressive.. I have found the they will go down to my hard pan and spread out like fingers .. I even see them grow threw silt fence and into my lawn. My soil is at least 10 to 12 inches deep.. However my patch is raised above grade and the top is a man made soil substrate.

My longest tap root from the stump was over 8' long before it broke. It was during a very dry year. It was determined to go get water.
