I recently bought a fairly expensive seed from 2013. It was in a paper envelope and when I checked it, it was split wide open and the cotyledon was easily seen through the nearly 1/8th inch split. A couple of questions: Does anyone think it will germinate? The auction site said the seeds appeared to be sound, but no germination was guaranteed. Should I try to deal with the club or try to germinate the seed?

The seed should be fine. Often when drying the seeds will split open. It usually doesn't affect germination and may help. I have had seeds where the shell was completely off and grew well.

No problem, I had a 800 Neilly that most of the shell was gone and a quarter of the cot was torn off last year. It germinated just fine, took a little longer to develop leaves in the beginning but caught up to the rest of my plants once it got going.

It will be fine as long as the pointy end is ok.

My 2096 meier that grew the 2185 was split, I knew it still had a good chance to germinate and never said a word, so if it's not overly damaged it will germinate
