Anthesis Data Summary (Question 6 of 8)
6-Why do I have to keep the brown vials frozen and the blue ones in the refrigerator?
The brown vials contain an active hormone that can degrade very quickly based on temperature. It is always interesting to me to see hormones for sale online and no indication of how old they are. Often these products contain only a small fraction of the original concentration of the hormone due to the natural degradation. By keeping the liquid suspension I have prepared in the frozen state, the hormone should remain active for up to 5 months. Just to give you an idea of the critical role temperature plays, if you were to store the same brown vial in the refrigerator, it would only last about 3 weeks! This is also why, even if you do not use the product during the growing season, you should discard it because the hormone has essentially broken down and is no longer active. My mid-April shipping time frame means you have until mid-September to use the spray, which is when most pollinations are done on pumpkins, watermelons, and tomatoes.
So, why does the blue capped vial have to be kept at refrigeration temperature? This is because deep freezing the contents in this container (small grains of powder) will damage the critical molecular structure of this active ingredient. This is what I mean when I say the directions are easy to follow if you read them;-)
As you may notice with these more precise products, attention to detail is very important. This is not just something you can toss in the shed and use when you think of it; there are special care and application instructions that must be followed for maximum effectiveness. So please read and follow the directions as there is a scientifically based reason supporting each requirement.
