I am sorry but have not been on this site in a whilebut How did Benji Miejer do this year?

Rudolph

One over 1800# and another over 1600#
And I guarantee he didn't even try this year and still got those numbers, I'm betting last year took a toll on him and he took it easy this year, my guess we'll see a monster from him next year

Hopefully Beni Meier is not annoyed with the changes to his name! Lol

What gets me is,,
The GPC as well as every news station I've ever been on...not one has got my home town right. Lol

Wow! He didnt even try?LOL I dont think Beni would agree with that.I think the weather plays a big role in what we get.Thats why no one will ever own this hobby.Thats the beauty of it.EVERYONE has a shot a being at the top!!

Ask him bubba, two years now he's given it his all. I bet he didn't put as many hours into it this year. And growers do own this hobby mark that's a fact, you think Ron just gets lucky every year? I 100% believe if Ron or beni or anyone else put the time into the hobby year after year they will own it

come on guy's it's lonely at the top.His hunger ,his drive is just not there. I think Beni is just playing around waiting for his WR to go down...then Look Out..lol 3 WR pumpkins in one year

Josiah, that's not a GPC issue with the misspelling of your home town. That came from the person at the events you attended doing the input. You need to contact them to get it changed.

I don't know if I agree 100% with Beni not trying. Why even grow and put in your time if your not gonna try? Or at least that's how I grow.

He said it himself Tanner he wasn't committed this year and I 100% believe him,,,every top grow has something in common,,,they're very competitive! When that competition is gone it's not fun anymore.

I believe it is hard to recreate the same precise season year after year. The variables are always changing and you can be exact as you want but recreating the same or better results are pretty darn hard

For example:After the spectacular weather we experienced during the 2012 growing season i swore i would not start another AG seed unless i felt i could get off to a great start. We had a brutal spring here and for some strange reason i decided to plant.
It wasn't long and i realized i made a huge mistake but once the plants are in the ground you pretty much have to ride it out.
Busy at work! Busy with chores! and busy in the patch!. It wasn't long before i started to feel a bit overwhelmed Tanner. When your heart is not in the right place the pumpkin patch will pay the price simple as that.
Beni also stated that he now has 3 kids and one is a newborn! Do you think he is busy?.lol Try raising 3 kids and grow 3 WR pumpkins in one year!! Now that is what i call work!!

I agree with Mark weather plays a huge role in the outcome of things in 2014 Cali has 3 fruit over 2000 lbs , Wis has none ..2015 Wis has 4 over 2000 lbs ..Cali has none pretty much same growerbase .. main difference was the weather.. what I find interesting is only 2 growers have got multiple fruit over 2000lbs in the same year..but beni is the only one to do it back to back

Good seed, good weather and good luck in order to make a great year.
Hard work, knowledge and experience makes the great growers who they are.

Ron is top dog Carl. To use a boxing analogy, Sonny Liston was a wrecking machine until Cassius Clay came along ( 1502 Wallace ) The next few years Muhammad Ali dominated with a loss and victories over Joe Frazier and George Foreman to establish his true dominance ( 2009 Wallace ). I am in no way comparing Beni with Leon Spinks, but after that loss the great one regained his title. No one has ever done that, HE IS THE TOP DOG.

its very unfortunate however the underlying messages in many of the above posts smacks of jealousy.personally i believe donkin and josiah need to get a room together.

there was a hidden agenda in my humble opinion regarding remarks from those two posters.

seems just a tad ironic that both (but in different years) made the gpc trip to ny but only as a backup to rons gpc champion pumpkins.

ron wont comment because he does not believe in being disrespectful and besides hes already on to next years plans to seek a fourth world title and/or world record, but im not.

as growers we should not look at those whose weights bettered ours as an opportunity to diminish but one to learn from.

we should look to learn from these growers and become better human beings in the process.

kudos as well to those that posted on rons behalf here.they can also read between the lines.

And pap I'm not Jealous of your son, he puts so much time into his garden, how can I be jealous of that? He's earned everything he's accomplished.. Yet another great example of why it is nice to just grow orange pumpkins. I've never seen a thread about growing orange pumpkins go down this all too familiar path. Maybe because winning a Howard Dill award is more about the seed and the product it produces rather than the person who grew it. You guys at the top should be patting each other on the back but instead you're kicking each other in the shins!

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

so who is the Top dog??
You can't look at what was weighed today, yesterday or 5 years ago. Go back to the beginning. His name was Howard Dill. 4 world champions, and it doesn't matter if he's here or not he's top dog. I'm pretty sure if you ask Ron Wallace or Larry and Jerry Checkon who is top dog, that's who they would mention.
But it's more than that, How many people have the Dill's, Wallaces, Checkon's etc helped along the way.
Why do I mention the Wallaces and the Checkons well in my books they are Number 2 and 3 with no disrespect meant by the placing. Ron Wallace has 3 World Championships, the Checkons have 2 and that's why I placed them as 2 and 3. But also look at the countless hour they have spent to better the Hobby and I include Howard in this. It's a labor of love and respect and that's what is missing in all these posts.
It's really hard to sell this Great Hobby to the non Pumpkin people when you cringe at adding BP to the list of reference because you don't want them to see the negativity that is generated time and time again, when we all know that without BP (right up there with the top dogs for sure)
we would never be where we are now.

I sure would like to go bigger on my pumpkins and am finally coming up with a plan on how to do this.I myself have yet to achieve 1000 lbs and I know what most of my problems are at this point.Being a cheapskate is most of it being I am on a limited budget but am finding that I have wasted product looking for a miracle.I think to myself at least I am consistant each year no mater what products I am using. When I grow again I will be going to the WOW site for proven products and a great price.I have spent to much time thinking outside the box looking for that miracle that has always been right in my face.I appreciate everyone on this site a bunch and this is a great community still to learn from

Slim, best of luck to you. There are plenty of products out there, but do your homework first as all are not created equal. And high price doesn't make something "necessarily" better.

Masher, very impressed with what you grow on the limited budget and appreciate others with redneck ingenuinity. I can relate. More isn't always better as you have shown.
